Surname Saturday - Brane Family

The Brane family begins in Frederick, Maryland with Job BRANE.  Since we have not found when or where Job came from, we are currently going with the "dropped by the Alien spaceship theory" as to his appearance in the records of Frederick!

Job married Martha MATTHEWS and, as for as we know, had two children.  Benjamin BRANE, who is my g-g-g-g grandfather, and his sister Sarah.  Benjamin married Catharine SCHMIDT  27 Jun 1812 in Frederick, MD and they had three children: Daniel Beig BRANE (my g-g-g grandfather), Peter Esta BRANE and Abraham BRANE.

Daniel married Mariah ANDERSON 8 Mar 1852 in Montgomery County, Ohio and they had four children: Sarah Jane BRANE, George Washington BRANE, John Thomas BRANE (my g-g grandfather) and Daniel BRANE.

John Thomas married Marilla Elma SCOTT 30 Mar 1880 in Wabash County, Indiana.  They had 8 children including my great grandmother Grace Mabel BRANE.

Grace Mabel married Pearl McCllean STEPHENS 13 Jun 1903 in Wabash County, Indiana.  They had 5 children including my grandmother Martha Jean STEPHENS.

Martha Jean married my grandfather Irvin Ora STEPHENS who had two children, my mother and my aunt.

If anyone has a connection to this Brane family and can share additional info on Job BRANE I would be forever grateful!

Surname Saturday - ELLAM

I've come to believe that I am the ONLY person alive who has a direct interest in the Ellam Family! I have come across researchers looking into the trees of those who married into this line but not one direct descendant since I started my research over 10 years ago.

Still, I want to post the Ellam line as my first surname Saturday just in case. (Always the optimist!)

I have traced the line back to Lancashire, England and my husband's 4th Great-Grandparents
RALPH ELLAM (1788 - ?) and ELIZABETH HUGHES (1791). Ralph and Elizabeth had 8 children.

His 3rd Great-Grandparents had a somewhat tragic story. RALPH ELLAM, JR. (1823-1859)and ELIZABETH GREENALL (1829-1885) were married in Lancashire in 1853. They had 3 children, Alice in 1855, Elizabeth in 1857 and WILLIAM ELLAM born the 29 Jul 1858. On the 12 Apr 1859, when William was only 9 months old, Ralph was killed in a coal mining accident.

His Great-Great Grandparents were WILLIAM ELLAM (1858-1933) and MARGARET WATKINSON (1859-1933). They died 4 months apart and are buried together in St. Helens Cemetery in Lancashire. They had 8 children, the oldest being my husband's Great-Grandfather, John.

His Great Grandparents were JOHN ELLAM (1883-1933) and ADA BAILEY (1886-1967). John was the first member of the Ellam clan to immigrate to America. He and Ada came on 14 April, 1911 and settled in Bridgeport, Connecticut. John died in 1933 in Connecticut the same year as his parents died in England. In fact, both John and his mother Margaret died in the same month, January. John died first by less than a week. I wonder if Margaret had gotten word of her sons death before she passed on herself. John and Ada had two sons, John and William.

His Grandparents were JOHN ELLAM, JR. (1908-?) and FLORENCE WALKER (1909-1995). They had 4 sons before divorcing in 1944. John, Jr. is my brickwall. After the divorce, John disappears from the family. The last record I can find on him is when he is employed on the ship the Arthur L. Perry and working as a cook in 1946.

I'm putting this out there hoping the Genealogy Gods are smiling down on me and will bring me many missing Ellam relatives with information on John!
