Mystery Monday - Can You Help Date This Photo?
The ancestors in this photo are unidentified and I'm trying to determine what year it may have been taken. Can you help?
**This is one of a handful of photos found in an album among the possessions of Clyde Arthur BRANE (1881-1972), grandson of Daniel and Mariah Anderson BRANE. The name on the outside of the album reads Mariah Anderson BRANE.

To me, the girl's haircut looks 1920s. The gentleman may be dressed in older attire due to his age. People in the country may be old-fashioned, as the woman's hair style makes me think of pre-1900.
ReplyDeleteMaybe the girl's skirt with straps (looks like windowpane plaid) might give a clue. Looks like she is wearing black stockings.
Back in the sixtys, my mom made me two skirts with straps like the one the little girl is wearing in the photo. That was an in fashion. Perhaps this was from that time.
ReplyDeleteHope you find out...happy digging
Is it a snapshot photo? Anything on the back that might identify the time period? I had a snapshot photo that had the words "velox" stamped on the back so I was able to estimate that it was taken in the 1940s-1950s from the website http://www.cycleback.com/photoguide/
ReplyDeleteGood luck!
My guess is late 1920s or early 1930s -- maybe. It's hard to date because all we really have to go on is the girl's clothing and hairstyle. It the lady were standing so we could see her dress, it might give more clues. Let us know if you find out.
ReplyDeleteI would guess between 1930 and 1935. I know this haircut was popular for little girls until at least 1940 as my grandmother was wearing it then. I concur with Dawn...what does the whole photo look like? Sometime the paper it is printed on can give a lead...
ReplyDeleteWish I had the actual photo! The relative who has them sent them on a thumbdrive to me. There is nothing written on the back of any of the photos nor any indentification in the album.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the guesses on the time frame. I'm thinking late 1920's to 1930's is probably a good guess!
